THE SCIENCE OF HUMAN MOVEMENT
WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY ?Simply put, kinesiology is the study of movement. More precisely it is understanding and measuring the kinetic chain of motion. When a person moves any part of the body, (throwing a ball, raising ones hand, nodding ones head), individual muscles are responsible for each part of the movement. These muscles must contract and relax in a specific sequence in order to produce the desired movement. This is called the kinetic chain. Each link has to connect with the next to complete the chain. . Pain and difficulty with movement symbolize "broken links" in this chain. The "broken links" are due to injury, weakness or shortened(tight) tissues. This is where the kinesiologist comes in!!! The kinesiologist tests and discovers exactly which parts of the body are causing the broken links. Much like a mechanic would test to find out what part of your car needs work to make it run properly.
|
HOW DOES IT WORK ?First, a very thorough assessment is done to track down exactly which muscles and tissues are not working properly.
Then the kinesiologist will prescribe specific movements, positions, and exercise that will start to mend the broken links in the kinetic chain of that movement. Often this will involve more of the body than just the primary area of concern so the entire body is taken into consideration during assessment. Depending on the level of pain, injury or dysfunction follow up appointments will be made to reach optimum function and pain free mobility. |
HOW WILL IT HELP ME ?Kinesiology is very beneficial for anyone who has a body!!! :)
